What a BAD work swap!!

Michael Peck shows off possibly one of the best work swaps I've seen: a ten metre long testing piece by HAHA from Blender studios! Just gotta get a house with a ten metre high ceiling!!

Zoy Xoy's Born to Be Wild

Paradise Hills causing a stir!!

Well it seems that we have offended te new Google+ somehow! Weather it be the crazy highway signage, or maybe the local art community enjoying themselves and the exhibitions, or just the general porn content, something is bugging the Googlians! Let's hope they bring it back because the international Google+ community was responding well to the gallery as a whole! And I see plenty of other gallery and business profiles on there!! Naughty naughty!

Yue Minjun

Yue Minjun: The Road
June 11 — September 3, 2011

The Beijing branch of Pace Gallery is currently showing a selection of new works from Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun. Exhibiting in his home city, the painter famous for his smiling self-portraits has included Christian iconography in this latest set of canvases as well as recent work leading the viewer to think about the role of Western influence in China. Is the ubiquitous grin pervading these works laughing at or laughing with the religious symbolism or is it just the Minjun’s signature imagery innocently translated into a new setting? Even more interesting, rounding out the works for The Road are a series of pieces re-appropriating classical Christian paintings like The Annunciation except the main characters are missing leaving empty structures and buildings.

Nicholas Ives at Paradise Hills

We are proud to announce our second solo show of the year 2011.

I AM FLYING THROUGH BOUNDLESS SPACE
Nicholas Ives

OPENING NIGHT FRI 29/7, 6-8PM

Floating around a loose spatial theme, this body of paintings by Nicholas Ives incorporates diverse elements of figuration, landscape, non-objective abstraction, portraiture, architecture, the meta-physical and minimalism.

"‘I am Flying through Boundless Space’ is a disparate visual collection of spatial experiments and imaginary forms which flow from Ives’ unstructured studio method of experimentation - trying to find new methods for painting and working to create limitless spaces, new forms and painterly possibilities."

- Nicholas Ives

Be the first to see this beautiful exhibition. Come down to celebrate, enjoy a drink and meet with the artist at the opening of this fantastic array of bizarre, mysterious and technically proficient paintings.

On til August 20. Check our website for more detail on this and any other exhibitions we have had!

Getting Prepped For Action

I think Joe thinks your gun is lame!

If only it worked as well as it looked!

John Rambo or Joe Flynn?
As Joe mentioned in a previous post, tensions were high as epic battles begun at the Hills last weekend. Eyes were taken out and foreheads punished, as only true NERF (when we say NERF we also mean the worse brand XC, which oddly enough is way more reliable) warriors know how. Rest assured, the battle may be won but the war is definitely not over!

NERF MANIA

Nerf Mania hit paradise hills hard yesterday afternoon, as a stronger arsenal of firepower was built, although it was short lived, the real "NERF" brand of toy guy was severely disappointing in comparison to the cheaper, non-"NERF" brand. The real nerf's look the part through and through but fail to live up to expectation. Kind of like the guy above!
(PLEASE NOTE: although this photograph may be mistaken to be Michael Staniak, it is however not.)

Banks Violette

Work by Banks VioletteWork by Banks VioletteWork by Banks Violette

Banks Violette is the heavily-tattooed artist whose broken screens, fluorescent installations and collaborations with the likes of Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley tip the balance between doom/black metal and grabbed-by-the-scruff-of-the-neck minimalism.
Having built a cult following for his charged pieces – stages and the kinetic abandoned are recurrent – the artist presents new work in Italy this summer, until August 21, aligning his art closer than ever to purity.
"Banks Violette's work at Museo Civico Diocesano di Santa Maria dei Servi is in discordant harmony with the imposing space, both resisting and acquiescing to its past and present condition, creating a new history while commenting on the site’s specific past," says Il Giardino dei Lauri, which organised the exhibition, curated by New York-based Benjamin Godsill.
Violette, who has been the subject of solo showcases across the U.S., Norway, Spain and Belgium, and is represented in London by Maureen Paley, has realised a new dialogue for this eponymous show, responding directly to its 14th century church surroundings. Aluminium, fluorescent tubes, black cable and repurposed industrial materials come together to riff on the history of light in church spaces, where illumination and spectacle is used to instill awe and reverence.
Banks Violette is part of the Il Giardino dei Lauri art project, and is presented at the Museo Civico Diocesano di Santa Maria dei Servi, Città della Pieve until August 21, 2011.
